no egr and emmissions

Before you say no way I've heard about carb guys passing with no egr and no cat so there has to be a way..

i am going to have to register my car in Phoenix finally
So with that i have to pass emissions this year.. 2 yrs ago when i tried to pass i failed. it was a stock tbi.. i dont remember what exactly failed i believe it was the top number and bottom number.. the middle passed if that means anything.. i do have an open element..

The reason i ask now is because i have a weiend stealth carb intake sitting on my floor i want to put on but it doesnt have egr provisions. i could order a chip from tbichips.com and disable the egr which is what i will do but would i pass.. i am going to order a new cat and probably the dynomax cat back but who knows if that will be enough.. My a.i.r. pump is only pumping air full time into my cat also if that means anything.. i could disco it if needed.
reason i do that i had an engine fire and melted that black box..

If my tbi cant pass with this little amount of mods i might as well start looking for another car...

if i understand this correctly, a manifold with an egr provision simply has a threaded hole in it for the egr valve. if that's true, i've often wondered why you couldn't just drill and tap your own hole for the egr in a non-egr intake. anyone know if this is possible? if it is, it opens a wealth of choices for people who must have egr to pass emissions (stealth ram, mini ram, performer rpm and rpm air gap, etc). i've seen carb spacers with egr before, but can't remember where.

in georgia, they do a dyno test, a visual check on the cat and are supposed to do an underhood visual check for egr, smog pump, etc. i've had my car tested twice. once they did the underhood check, once they didn't.

i'm betting the people who pass without egr, cats, etc. are just getting to emissions stations that don't do the visual checks they're supposed to. as i understand it, a well tuned engine will usually pass emissions without egr, cat, smog pumps, etc. it's when they get a bit out of tune that those things come into play.

my two cents, for what they're worth, would be to keep all the emissions equipment operational. besides being legal, i feel better thinking i'm doing my small part to keep little old ladies and kids with asthma from keeling over in the streets on smog alert days.

you can find any missing or melted black boxes at the junkyard for cheap. if you don't understand the emissions stuff, hunt around and find a gm mechanic who does side work. they're out there.

i have emmissions in a month i am leaving for my new job this monday. i'll be back the end of november..november is when my tags expire. when i come back (november 21st) i will have around 600 to spend to get this car to pass emmissions.. i know i need a new cat.. i am weondering if the a.i.r. pump pumping into the cat 24/7 is bad i know it will make it hotter so maybe i will only do it for the actual testing..

About drilling i dont think i want to drill and tap into my manifold if i ruin it there goes that perfectly fine manifold..

i have seen those carb spacers with egr provisions too it was for ford though holley or edelbrock made it and it was in csk auto..that is a good option if i can find it for chevy..

Re: no egr and emmissions

I have a blocked egr, removed the air pump, and no Cat. I passed emissions here in Delaware and they do pretty much the same stuff. I didn't think I would even come close to passing. I do have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator which I believe helps greatly with the idle and high speed emission tests. Cross your fingers when you go through.
