Kablam!
On the way home tonight.....
I was driving down Sahara and this guy in a Kia turned right in front of me. I had no time to react whatsoever. He was intoxicated.
My front end is trashed.... I was driving around 30-35 mph and knew there was no hope.
The guy went to jail. My baby is going to be looked at by an insurance adjuster and I am sure they will total it.
This is a very sad day for me.... I was just getting the car dialed in with the computer and it was running well.... Had the leaks taken care of etc etc....
Now this.
I have put so much money into the car and I know they won't give me anything close to what I put into it. I am a little shaken up by the whole thing, but as others will tell ya, it was my baby.
I want them to fix it not total it. I don't know what will happen just yet.
It sucks man
At least nobody was hurt. I'll let you know more when I do.

Shouldn't you be able to force *his* insurance to pay for repairs?...

you might be able to get the insurance company to realize the value of the f-body and it present worth and condition. i know someone else on another board that had a frenched front end, and the insurance company tryied to total it, well any ways he got them to repair it rather then total it. he got estimates rite and left, and something about how much the car was worth not the low book BS that insurers give out. and so long as the frames not bent up then it wont cost that much or it shouldnt.

I know the feeling all to well. When it comes down to the nitty- gritty.. feeling a pain in your neck and laying out reciepts upon reciepts of crap you've put into and onto the car changes the willingness of an insurance company to cough out a litle extra to stay out of trouble (at least here)
When I got in my wreck.. I got into it with the at fault's insurance (after 2 weeks of driving around a frontless car). Aside from the *** beating I about gave the rep when he said they were going to total the car I had searched over 1.5 years for, I produced reciepts for parts added to the car that "book value' doesn't list and explained the pain in my back that was suddenly starting to resurface.
The check was in the mail for $500 more than the value of the car the next day.
Just my scenerio and maybe some luck in the deal.
Hope you're able to get things worked out to your advantage and good to see you were able to walk away from it.

One other thing, if you can also procure replacement parts yourself, that really helps too.. At least it did me when i taco'd my 70 chevelle's hood and fenders. I was gonna have to deal with totalling it too, but we were able to find the hood, radiator support and left fender. After that they were more willing to pay for it. Good luck, might be tough to do without a frame though (unibody).

Man, I am sorry to hear that. I think all of us can relate. Just fight it the best you can. Like mentioned above, get estimates with used parts and what not. If worse comes to worse, you could always see if you can get a quote for something that's just under the "value of the car" and maybe pay for the rest of the stuff yourself. Like I said, if worse comes to worse. Best of luck with it.

Dude, the last wreck i was in was the other kid's fault, and they totalled my rx7. They tried to lowball me on the book price (he said $1200,books for like $1500, i paid $600), and I told the ins. adjustor "bull****. I looked for this car for a long time and I just paid $2000 for it." Needless to say, I walked out with a $2000 check.
Push them around, you have them by the gonads and they don't want you to know it.

sorry to hear that snow all will be ok though,i was told that someone from the club was involved in an accident, see you aroud town.
hate to break it to you man but thirdgens are a dime a dozen, you see it as desirable while everyone else sees is as just an old car.
I wouldnt bother fixing it thats more trouble than its worth, get as much as you can for it, see if you can take all of your goodies out of it (i mean everything.. you may have to buy back the car -which im told is easy and very cheap- unless you can work some magic)
Once that is done find yourself another thirdgen, heck, a 6 banger will do, just a nice clean body/interior car. Drop your goodies in that car. If you arent willing to do that then sell your stuff and move on.
Lifes too short to get hung up on material things (especially ones that are easily replaced)

That sucks but like Pablo said, buy back for cheap, use that money for new 6 banger, clean body, dump your goodies in and roll with it. I had to buy back my, I ended up getting the better out of the deal except that now I don't have theft insurance because I'm a "high risk." Now it's a stealth stereo system which has yet to be noticed
.
I'm sure you'll get what you want in the end.

offer to buy "salvage". let them know you are not happy but after getting the offer say OK but i keep the car. that way you can remove parts you want and dispose of those you do not need. or find someone to repair the old car if feasible seeing you bought salvage. also did you see medical attention? you could have been treated for "something" but most likely did not go that route. i had a gash in top of head from rearender that was worth $1500 for scar which disappeared per my wife. cant see on top of head.
