LT1 cam def needs tuning.

Well guys I gave up on TBI and went to the darkside (carb). I had installed 416's and a LT1 cam on my LO3 earlier this year and could only muster a 15.9 at about 89mph. I tries the afpr free mod and messed w/ timing until I was fedup. I did not want to get into chip tuning at all but I thought I would try the cam anywayz. I stuck on a Holley 600 VS and an old HEI and went 15.1 at a lil over 90 mph today. Just lettin you guys know that the cam swap def. needs tuning no matter what anyone else says. Oh yea, the bad news is, I also spun a rod bearing too . Oh well its was time to move on to bigger and better things...read 350.

When you get into a cam swap with any engine you HAVE to expect it needing to be tuned. The cam in the LO3's is extremely tiny and the LT1 is a big upgrade and totally changes the characteristics of the engine and moves the whole powerband. Tuning the computer is so easy now with everything people on this site have done. Look into tuning and you won't think it was a waste of money. Too many people just throw a cam into a completely stock engine that came with very restrictive parts and fuel/timing tables in the ECM, and think that it will make it powerful. You need to match parts and do other mods to complement the cam swap to get the real returns you're looking for.

I hear you. I would do the same thing with a cam swap personally, I think the LT1 is too mild.
