air cleaner for dual 454 TB

i see my TB pod is 2 & 3/4 inch over the lip of TB. first thought is purchase a standard 3 inch high 14 inch K & N. but i see a summit 2 and 3/4 inch (billet) thay may work with an xtra gasket used on horn if need be. i have a potential hood clearance issue on my 84 vette. 454 TB not yet installed. any suggestions? also is the vacuum thingie on TB throttle stop that is higher than horn an issue? i see some disclaimers that this air cleaner wont work with elec choke so is this a similar clearance issue as far as vac thingie? maybe trucks have a special air cleaner? same with linkage any issues there?

I would see if the vac stop dohicky can be removed. Shouldn't need it.

On stock TBI vehicles there is a metal spacer ring between the top of the TBI and the aircleaner base. They come in all different heights. Cars have ones that are 3/4" or so, up to 2-3" for vans and trucks. Summit sells plastic ones, but they are thin and bend easily.

Don't know if it is a clearance issue or not. On the one semi-stock setup I had problems clearing the top of the coil (external) along with clearing the brackets holding the MAP sensor and knock filter. On trucks these are mounted on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

Since i used an AstroVan harness I went with that type of mount instead of changing the harness. The aircleaner I used was from a '80-something Caprice w/a quadrajet.

I do know that the spacer rings help with low speed throttle response. A lot of the stock TBI aircleaners have a ring extending upward about an 1-1/2 into the housing from the base.
