which TBI riser to get?

ok im in a situation i cant decide which riser to get, the one from jegs or the one from turbocity

the one at jegs does not mention how tall it is, but it is aluminum , and including the install, its $82 bucks

the one at turbocity is 1/2" tall and made from delrin (prolly just a nice name for plastic from what it looks like) including the install, runs $58 bucks

Don't get either. Save your money on a better mod. You could buy an LT1 cam for the price that you would pay for those. I have the Turbo City one and the only reason why I have it was to make my open air element clear my distributor. Plus it has siameesed runners and I am not sure that that is such a good idea seeing how the bores on the intake are not. kinda creates a flat spot for air to become turbulent upon entering into the intake. I am pretty sure that the jegs one is 1" tall. I had enough problems bending my throttle linkage back to the stock location. That was with a the .5" spacer. Also I have the edelbrock TBI intake which is .5" taller than stock and combined with the .5" spacer I am .75" taller than stock and I am right up against the hood. I do not think a 1" would clear with ease.

would the injector risers raise the overall hieght and cause hood issues as well?

and i removed the black crap under my hood and because of that, the bolt on top of my air filter has more room to sit, so if jegs is 1" i think that would be fine

is the one you have from turbocity? i assume so cuz u mention its .5" .what do u mean by siameese runners?

and why do u think jegs is 1" tall? thanks!

I have the turbocity one. Most aftermarket spacers are 1" so thats why I think the jegs ones is that tall. Plus I remember someone asking me about it after they bought it a while back. I can barely close my hood now with the spacer and intake manifold. It puts my TBI unit .75" taller than stock. Re-read my previous post. I talk about simaeesed runners along with these questions I just answered as well.

So picture the sapcer in your head. It matches the shape of the TBI unit mounting area. Now it has two bores in it spaced apart right? Well siameesing them cuts out the material in between them so that they become connected. They look like a pair of binoculars with the round parts on the end and a square part in the middle. This is not helpful because the bores on the intake manifold are not siameesed. So there is a big flat spot that the air has to go around as it passes between to two bores on the spacer. Not the best for smooth flow. I think TurboCity spacers are the only ones out there that are like this. I do not have a pic here to show you but I will see if I can dig one up later.

thanks i do understand what u mean. after i looked at turbo's and then at jegs, i see the difference, i would think jegs would be the way to go then because they are individual bores and its 1"

I have only heard of one person who used the 1" spacer and didn't have throttle bracket or TV cable problems. Even with my .5" spacer I had a hard time getting my throttle cable to go back to normal and it caused my car to idle at over 2000 rpm. A little coaxing and bending here and there and it now doesn't pull back on the throttle any. A 1" would be impossible for me to use. I would really save your money. You aren't going to see any hp gains at all. If it were only a few bucks I would say go for it. But the stock intake, even with its small plenum size, can support the stock cam just fine. 80 bucks is a nice start to saving for a good set of headers.

Yea that would help a little but that area is so small they should just keep the bores isolated. With that pic you showed me there would be only like a .25" gap. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

do you have a particular need for the spacer? like shifty's? from what shifty has said to me about his, it seems like an overall waste of money unless u have to have it. and like he said you can get an LT1 cam for that price and see much more gain... or save for something else. i was also going to buy a spacer but shifty talked me out of it b/c of the less than substantial gains and problems that go along with it. just my 2 cents

Like everyone else here is saying, I wouldn't waste your money on it. Why are you so set on buying one of these? All you are going to get out of it is throttle linkage problems, you will notice NO power gain. So if you want to spend 60 bucks or whatever it costs to get some linkage problems then be my guest. If you're actually looking for a power increase save a little more money and do some exhaust work.

Thanks Bron. It really is a waste. I was naive when I got mine and thought it would do all the things that the adds said they would. It would have been much less of a pain if I would have got the right open element.

It is your money so you can do what you want with it. I only have experience with .5" so good lukc if you go with 1". I am not trying to be diffucult here but I know what works on these cars. Besides mine I have 2 buddies with LO3's. Two of those cars are built to the hills with every mod out there. Because of that I can tell you what adds power and what does not. I would put 50 bucks towards something that will actually add power and not headaches.

Here is a link that I posted about boring the edelbrock Intake. In some of the pics you can see my spacer. I milled that out as well just so I could use it unitl I got a flat base air cleaner.

That still doesn't change the fact that the spacer is a waste of money; we're just trying to help you save some money here for something else that may actually net you a power gain.

BTW, in your sig, the 700R4 is a 4-speed trans not a 5. just FYI

??? huh? how u do what? u lost me there sorry. and if ur talking about my comment on less than substantial gains, then i would say that is how you do it. he has 2 mods, open element and a muffler, so for him to spend 80 bucks on a spacer that will net him little or nothing i think that should be how he does it. save another 200 bucks and buy headers, they will not only net you more gain they will help you in the future. but hey i'm just some stupid fool, what do i know... *shakes head*

The 5 speed is the T5. The 700R4 is the automatic. Save that 80 bucks and put it towards a cat-back exhaust or headers. If you have to spend that money now before it burns a hole in your pocket, buy an LT1 cam and some gaskets and set them aside for when you are ready for it.

If I had a bone stock LO3 in front of me right now this is the order of mods I would do to it.

Tuneup
Subframes
Cat back
Cat
headers
Burning my own chips
Fuel pump
Heads, cam, intake, more tuning etc etc

if i were u i'd put that 80 bucks in the bank or in a jar or somethin so u dont blow it on pointless stuff... like i often do. save it and keep adding to it until u save about 300 and get a nice set of headers from ACS or if u dont want coated from another place. or, spend around 100 bucks and get a cam and install it. but personally i would go with the headers first, and yes it's just a T-5

Your posts are pointless. Stop cluttering. He has had 3 camaros and everything he has stated thus far is completely accurate. I would take a hint by your probational status.

TraviZ. take it for what its worth and dont repeat mistakes many of us have made, i for one have wasted money on, dumb things like platinum +4 spark plugs. and having stock heads rebuilt(could have purchased new aluminium or S/R TQ'rs)for what i invested in 'em. ASK the guys here what works....they know.

Pretty much what Shifty said for mod's you could do.

If you want go power first replace all of the exhaust. Headers, cat then cat back.

Next heads and in my hindsite I would go with a set of 081 casting number TPI 305 heads. Search for previous posts on these heads as there is plenty of good info on them.

And to see how much air they can flow do a search for Tim Burgess. His 92Z 305 tpi 5 spd. kicks butt!! Don't be concerned that he is running tpi this will show that these heads will flow more than most tbi setups will ever need. When ported they flow well enough to run on a 350 TBI from the posts that I have read on testing them on a flow bench.

Hmm, interesting that bickering has started in a tbi spacer post. Nothing has changed.

IMO, spacers aren't worth it. Few people I knew got them and the common reaction was "uhhh, well, I guess its working"

Save the 80 bucks on gears, exhaust, pick up a lt1 cam off ebay for $40 and save it for later after you do the exhaust. You'll be dissapointed spending your money on it.
