He's right. It's located on the passenger side of the block, down towards the bottom, near the starter, and his a one-wire connection to it. FYI, it is located in a coolant passage so if you remove it, coolant will come out everywhere. I know this from personal experience.

whats the thing in the driver's side head, opposite of the fan switch (which is on the p-side)?

That is either a coolant temperature sensor or a coolant temperature sending unit. I can't remember which one is on which side, sorry.

The temp sensor for the engine temp guage on the instrument panel is by the #1 spark plug. If you are talking about the one at the rear of the engine by the oil filter, That is the oil pressure switch/sending unit. On some engines these are two seperate units and are located one above the other.
