TBI Engine for Towing

Okay, I want to build a 350 for towing. This is going into an 1988 Suburban 3/4 ton with 700r4. The gear will be 3.42. I am thinking about using a roller 350 with the LT1 camshaft. Also, I am planning to use my iron heads off my 1991 Z28 5.7. I am going to use the Summit shorty headers and an Edelbrock Performer intake with PAW TBI adaptor plate. Would the Ram Jet camshaft work better in this application? I am working on the chip burning with my 1991 Z28 so that would not be a problem. The exhaust would finish out with 3 inch pipe. What kind of torque numbers could I see with this motor? Thanks, BranZ

A 350 TBI makes for a great motor for low speed torque. I would look at an L98 cam off the same motor that you pulled those heads to keep the RPM range down a bit. The L98 cam willmake most of its power down low and thats where you will want it. You are right on about preparing this car with the exhaust and chip tuning. With this combo properly tuned 350lb ft could be well within reach. To many other factors to accurately geuss though.

EDIT:Let me know if you read that okay because for some reason my comp messed up and it posted but said zero replies on the main forum.

I would love to but I have that all too common cash flow issues. What is a good kit? The block is an 1988 IROC 5.7 roller. I do not think I can get away with just buying a crank? I really want to put my 454 in it but I need to do some research on the brackets to keep my current A/C compressor.

Just keep the stock displacement. Stroking it will dramatically increase your budget.
