bogging down at wot

for some reason, my car seems as though its not getting enough fuel. When im at wot you can hear it sucking air, but it just bogs down and is the same as if i were at 1/2-3/4 throttle. Should i try upping my fuel pressure, or does anyone know what it is causing it to do this. I have a k&n open element on it by the way. Would a clogged cat cause this also?

You could have a clogging cat or a clogging fuel filter. Has the car always acted like this. Stock TBI cars don't really have much top end. You could also have a weak coil or bad plugs. Has the car had a tune up in awhile?

im kinda thinking cat maybe, i know its the original one, i did a tune up about 10k ago maybe 15, the fuel filter only has about 10k on it, ive got new plugs and was gonna wait till this weekend to change them. It just recently started doing this.
Thanks, Shifty

I would still check the fuel filter. They go very easily and should be changed about 6k or so. The older these cars get the more funk breaks off in the lines and gets in the filter. Also, drive your car around for a lot and run it kinda hard and then go home, pull it into a dark garge and lean under the car. if the cat has a slight glow to it than it is clogging.

Waht does the exaust sound like? Me and my brother stuck an unmolested holley 650 on a Z-28 way back when and after about 20 mins of idleing and revving it nuked the cat. Took it out on the road and could bearly hear the motor when it was floored. All I could hear was a loud hissing noise under WOT. A bad fuel pump could also be the cause. If you can, check the fuel pressure under laod to make sure its not falling off.

the exhaust sounds like it might have a very small leak in it, but still sounds the same for the most part. Im really thinking cat, cus its beat to all h*ll, got a bunch of dings and dents in it. That and it original with 112k on it, that and i run a little bit rich i think because i run 91 octane it and i know running rich will burn up a cat
