ive read most the thread, and still cant really seem to understand why my trans am during a burn out, only the back right tire will spin ..... why is that exactly?

Because you have an open rear, only one wheel gets power, I believe both wheels get power after you have traction?
A posi would spin both tires, or mabie prevent you from burning out at all depending on a number of factors, which is a good thing

You have the imfamous one wheel peel. A psoi carrier would allow for both wheels to spin when loaded.

New GTO smokie

Just for giggles, we took a new GTO and tested the theory that powerbraking is bad for the car. Only seems to have hurt the tires. This was all for scientific research, you understand

Ok guys lets keep this TBI related. Lets keep drivetrain questions aside.

Lack of posi as well as the torque from the engine/trans is what causes it. The torque about the rear end unloads the right wheel and further loads the left wheel so the right will usually be the first to spin.

I had a little fun the other day. Took the lil LO3 out, powerbraked for a second, and let 'er rip! Lets just say that the burnout mark was over 200 feet, out of a LO3!!!!!!!!! All I have is an open air element and a catback, im so proud or her.

I'll get a pic once they get developed

My rear brakes are shot, and I made the mistake of letting my friend drive, he was flooring it with the brakes on for a good 2 seconds despite my screeming at him, and hitting him, now I have a strange sound back there
A certain person is going to be paying for whatever he broke.

Do all Camaro LO3 combos come with 3.08's? I got a LO3 in my 2 ton Caprice with 2.73's in the rear and can't do a brake torque for **** but it will spin em from a dead stop. I'm assuming its the weight and the fact that i have 2.73's. It will be easier with a 3.08 or 3.42 correct?

my lo3 has 2.73's and i've got no trouble spinning them (it). I think you could order it with anything between 2.73, and 3.42, but since it was made as an 'economy v8' most people got the economy rear hence all the 2.73's. Its possible that your caprice has a higher stall speed on the torque converter. the solution would be give it more gas. i cant imagine that it wouldnt spin.

I think all the auto's are all blessed with the 2.73's, and the manuals 3.08's.

What did you do, just floor it? Under certain conditions (tire quality, surface of the road, suspention mods, etc) we don't have enough power to burn out like that. Try the powerbrake, even out tbi's can handle that

tips

load it up with one foot on the brake then mash the gass then slowly let up on the brake

use oil on the rear tires or get in some sand in the road

last thing if neather of these work figure out what is wrong with car guz i have done some mean smoke shows with a geo metro and that is tbi and 1/5 the cubes

This thread has lost all technical content so I have to shut er' down. Burnouts are pointless unless you are cleaning off your slicks. Even dirty slicks will provide enough grip for any 305 TBI therefore rendering a big burnout as an attept to achieve extreem macho-ness and nothing else.
