heres a good tps questions for you all

I did numerous searches and yet havent really found what im looking for. Mostly are tpi related. Heres the question, how do I adjust my tps? well I know its been asked many times so far, but i got more to it than that. about 3 months ago my tps went bad, so i replaced it, just slapped it on in abouts the same position as the original, had no voltmeter. well emissions time comes around, 2 fails in a row, now that ive replaced everything ( and i do mean everything that i could to help, all ignition, o2, and ign box-Converter is just fine too), i also want to do a real adjustment to the tps as well, make it all legit and everything. I bought a volt meter today, follwed the instructions in my book, which didnt really help me because they seem to only want to tell exactly how to test it on tpi, cross-fire, and mfi systems, all i got out of it was connect between a & b and look for .54 volts. But here it gets tricky cuz if i connect between a & b all i get is 5.03 constistant, no matter were i adjust the damn thing to. However the car runs just fine, when my old tps went bad, it ran like crap. I read the back of my connector for the a & b, which are black and dark blue. Can someone please explain to me a little better on this please? I really need your help guys and I know for a fact you all know much more about these cars, than those damn haynes, and chilton guys.

there really isn't an adjustment in ours.

think the cam might be part of you failing i bet you fail for HC's.

its a replacement one, with elongated slots for the bolts. and yes im sure the cam does bring it up a bit (in the hc's), but the car is getting a ton of gas, and i'm just trying everything i can to get a pass before i worry about putting another cam in, Others have passed with that cam before though, so technically i should be able to as well. I just mainly want to get this tps adjusted correctly

ok, if you are getting 5volts, you have the wrong wires, is your connection one with 3 in a row, or one of the circular connectors.

its circular, but on the back of the connector its says a on one side and b on the other, and in the front of it, it says c, i used the a & b like it should be. But knowing the car like evreything else, that could be wrong too

As you probably already know, your tps sensor is a reostat. I would ground one of the wires on your meter and test all three wires till I found one that starts out with the voltage in the 0.5 range, then goes on up to 4.8v or so. Once you find the correct wire the set it to 0.48 to 0.53. At least that was the setting on my IROC.

It's advisable to use the ground on the TPS rather than a chassis ground for this operation. The reading at the ECM may vary otherwise.

Stormr,

The best way to adjust the tps, I found, was to use winaldl. That way, you know that the ecm is reading the voltage correctly. I believe the "0%" position is .54v in aldl, but it displays both, and you can change the min and max voltages in winaldl (for recording log data).
