cam suggestions?

cam suggestions?

Getting ready to start on my Formula and need some suggestions on a cam. What I have so far: 350 4 bolt roller block, L98 heads (no porting or valve work, just rebuilt), flat top pistons. I plan on keeping the TBI for now. I've got a tb and intake at the machine shop getting bored to 48mm. I plan on going to 65 lbs/hr injectors. How crazy can I get with a cam before my induction/computer can't keep up (even with prom tuning)? I've got a couple lt1 cams floating around, would they be a good choice, or are they too small? At some point I'll probably move on to a 670 tb (or maybe even a carb ). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would stick with one of those LT1 cams for now so that you can get the tune dialed in. Anything crazier will be hard to tune your first try id you are a novice at rpom burning. You want to stay in the 111 or higher LSA range. Also, have you done any seat work to those heads? If not you are going to be limited to .480" lift.

I dont know about that LT1 cam on a 350, it is awfully mild. I would think about builing up wutever induction system u are going to use first, be it a bigger tbi, carb, or something even better, then after that, worry about the cam.
Why put in a very tame cam, then put on a carb, then take out your cam again, and put in a real cam.

The point of the small cam is to learn how to tune. If you have never burned your own PROM it is very hard to start on a wicked cam.

Understood... however, my point is that i think the cam should be the last component to be chosen because it needs to be matched with everything else. He says at some point he may move to a 670 tbi or even a carb, and i think it would be best for him to chose the induction first then the cam. Obviously if he moves in the direction of a carb his cam choice would be much different than with the tbi. And he never mentioned if he would be doing the prom tuning himself.

U should really have those heads ported. L98's arent awesome in stock form. Then choose a cam after u put on your larger TB or carb. I mean 4-bolt 350's are great if u r gonna rev your engine past 5500 rpm, so why immasculate it by sticking an LT1 cam in it.
