305 vortec, long post please help though

ok heres the scoop. My Ssgt got me a deal on a freshly rebuilt 305 vortech motor, the guy is upgrading to a 454. The guy pulled this 305 out of a 92 camaro and is now running a carb on it right now, im gonna keep my tbi. Its supposedly running about 300 hp. I know others have done the vortech upgrade, so i know this will work.
But i need to know everything i need to get from this engine before i have someone make me a chip to hopefully at least get the thing started so i can begin tunning it myself. As of right now, i know it wont have the air stuff, or any emissions. What else do i need to know about this motor? Right now i know it has an oversided cam but plan on going with a LT1/LT4 cam to make it easier to tune, which of those would be best, or is there a cam out there equal to those that will be easy to tune and still make good power.
What mods to the car itself will i have to make. Is the stock tbi gonna work with ulitmate tbi mods, or will i need to get a 454/holley tbi? What size injectors will i need? What kinda fuel pump? will a 350 tpi pump work or do i need something bigger?
Ive still got about 2 months before i get the motor in the car, but wanna have everything ready for the swap soon as it happens, and really dont wanna have to carb it.
Any and all help or advise will be greatly appreciated on this. thanks in advance.

Well if the motor is a built vortec 305 than you really only need the motor and an appropriate intake. If it comes with the carb intake then you can use a TBI adapter plate to mount everything up. There is only one TBI intake out there that will fit vortec heads. Most people just use a carb one with an adapter plate. I would find out what cam is in the car now. If the cam is not TBI frienldy than you will need to swap it out. If you do swap it out I would look at any of the LT1 cams or LT4. The LT4 cam is about as big as you want to go with 1.5 rockers if the vortec heads are untouched. Find out if they have been machined to allow larger than .480" lift cams. Any TPI fuel pump will suffice. I would look into an aftermarket high flow fuel pump because GM pumps have a short and un-predictable life span. Check out the vortec TBI thread at the top for some additional info. The "new to TBI" thread will give you the guide to selecting cams for any TBI set-up. Good luck and report back when you find out about the heads and cam that are already on it.

ok well i finally got the motor, its got the 350 vortec heads, and vortec intake, im in the process of getting a LT4 cam for it, and im gonna use 1.6 roller rockers, not sure on the fuel pump, but thinking 350 tpi, should i go with a 454 tbi, or get the holley, will 65 injectors be enough or am i gonna need bigger?

Now heres where it gets intresting. Im gonna stroke my little 305, i dont care that i could get more power from stroking a 350, so please dont chim in telling me that.
Has anyone here done a stroked 305 vortec, and stayed with the tbi, if so a link to there post will be greatly appreciated, as ive got a feeling this thing is going to be very frustrating, and any and all help or suggestions on doing this will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

I would have some seat work done on those heads to make sure you don't get coil bind. The LT4 cam is right at .480" and you should really have vortecs machined when you go past .460". Anywhoo, you are going to need a larger TBI unit with larger injectors, especially if you stroke it. You have 3 choices for the most part. A Turbo City unit, 454 or holley. The holley and 454 are 2" bores and the turbo city has 1 13/16" bores. The holley and 454 will require some fab work where as the turbo city unit is a direct bolt on. I do not know of any stroked 305 vortec combos but there are a few 335 TPI strokers out there.

im gonna assume that the heads have already been machined, but he who assumes, is wrong. Ive gotta get em off the engine and into the shop before i know for sure. Im leaning towards the turbo city since its a direct bolt on, i want this as pain free as possible. What size injectors should i work with, i was thinking 65 just cus i know theres modded 350's out there working fine with them, or would 55 with bumped up fuel pressure be better

Deffinately get the heads checked over. Spend the few hundred and have them prepped the right way. You will thank your self later. I would go with 55 or 65 pounders and do the necessary chip work to make them work. If you go to big you will have fueling problems at idle.
