High Idle at Start-up

High Idle at Start-up
Now, I understand that this topic comes up a lot and I did search for a someone with a similar problem but I came up with nothing. So here goes:
When I first start the car up in the morning, it idles at about 1500 RPM (I have an aftermarket tach installed) in park and about 1000 RPM in drive. The idle will drop down slowly and about 2-3 minutes later it will idle normally, which is around 600 RPM. Since it wants to idle so high, it is causing some long cranking times (around 5 seconds). The car will idle just fine if its still warm, though, and it usually only happens in the morning. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. Since I have owned the car I have done a complete tune-up and have replaced a lot of parts (because of different problems). My timing should be at 3* advanced (I haven't checked it in a while though). I did the TPS and IAC adjustments per the tech article and that didn't help either. Don't know if it matters but it isn't the PROM, I have a Hypertech (yeah, I know it's crap) PROM and the car does the same thing with either PROM. I'm starting to think its the computer, maybe? I also don't know what kind of fuel pressure I have, yet. Anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thank you very much in advance for the help.

Your car is fine. It is normal when cold to have an higher idle. It helps warm up and build oil pressure faster when the car has reached ambient temps.

Oh, OK. I was wondering why after all these months I could never get the idle down any lower. Thanks for the help, it was starting to bother me since I thought something was wrong.

When the car is warm it is fine, it cranks right up and idles at the right RPMs. All I was worried about was the cold start-up since it was so high.

even warm, the RPMs should rev for a moment, this is to build oil pressure. IIRC the commanded max. cold engine speed for idle is 1400RPM, so you should be right about there when the car is cold.

Yep, my car does exactly that. I never paid attention once the engine was still warm. I just never thought that it would help the engine to idle high when cold to build oil pressure but it makes perfect sense.
