Cowl induction hoods, smell gas fumes?

Hello,

Anyone with TBI open element ever smell the gas fumes while running you AC?
A friend of mine currently not a member of the boards, bought a cowl hood to go with his open element for his TBI and he complains of fuel/gas fumes smell while running the A/C.
Is this common?

Thanks,

It may be due to the fumes blowing back through the opening in the cowl into the HVAC air opening which is located below the screen at the base of the windshield.

I would say yes. If he put a rear hood seal on that hood I bet his problem would go away. When your AC is triggered the ECM sends a bit more fuel and timing.

I been smelling gas too but with my AC/heater on vent. In fact I keep stoping and poping the hood looking for a leak. Its way worse when its hot . I only smell it sometimes at a stop sign or when I pull into the garage.

P.S. ya I got a cowl hood also.

I had that problem when I first put my open element on. It ended up just needing a different/better valve cover breather. Got a 2.5in K&N valve cover breather with the right size hole to fit the valve cover and a gromet. Problem solved for me anyway.
