just got 350 tbi motor

ok guys i have a few projects going on right now. my maros in the body shop being repainted and the birds up for sale but i just got a whole 87 chevy 3/4 ton pickup for $100. its a piece of crap but the motor runs good. its got the 350 tbi in it. can anyone tell me what hp and tq it has stock? ive also just got a 85 maro that has the 2.8 auto in it now. i want to pull the 2.8 and swap that 350 in its place with another 700r4. do u think this swap can be completed? could i get an edelbrock victor jr intake and still run the tb unit or should i swap to carb? i was also gonna run a small cam in it. i was thinking of the compucam 2050. any ideas anybody

The motor is rated at around 210hp and 300lb ft. Give or take ten. It is not much of a performer but a huge step up from your 2.8. If I were you I would build up the motor first before you put it in. It is plagued with crappy swirl port heads and a weak cam just like all other stock TBI motors. While you have the motor on the side you can research what it takes to swap a TBI motor into a car along with what sort of mods and chip burning are required.

well i was thinking couldnt i just swap the motor into the camaro and run it without the computer?. i know i have to do litttle stuff like change the motor mounts and stuff like that. im just trying to be as basic as i can with this swap. no extra wires, and hoses and crap. here are ym plans. take the 350 block have it bored .030 over, clean up the crank and rods, get some 10 to 1 pistons and put them in. i have heard nothing but bad about the stock 350 tbi heads so i have a set of 78 or 79 350 heads for it. im gonna have those ported out and cleaned up and put them on. i wanted to run the crane powermax 2050 series cam. 1.5 roller rockers, fresh valve springs and top that off with an edelbrock victor jr intake with spacer and put the stock tb on top. mind you this is going into an 85 camaro base model with the 700r4. its real base no ac crank windows, etc. i also have a set of long tube headers for it as well. thinking of haveing custom 2 1/2" duals run on it.

You will need the computer if you stay with TBI. The only way to run without it is to go carb.

There are spacers available that allow you to mount a traditional TBI unit to a carb intake. This is the best route to go as far as performance intakes go. You can use either the truck or car ECM but you cannot mix and match the proms. You will need one or the other. I would use the car ECM and get a "cop car" chip found in the 350 TBI caprice cars. You can find those on ebay. If not, the bin file is floating around on the boards and you could burn your own. That chip is tailaored quit well to stock LO5 motors and would be fine for you if you leave the motor stock. 1/4 mile times are hard to predict. TBI tuners are all over the place based on how well they can dial in their combos with prom burning. There is only one way to find out. If you leave the motor in stock form and use the cop car chip you could see mid 14 to high 14's. Possible better.
