really quick head question

in regards to our swirl port heads:
would it be possible to some how machine out the swirl in them to make the ports more efficient? or would that just cause problems with the valve train, etc.?

just wonderin...

o by the way, i got some 416 heads (according to shifty's beautiful TBI article; 84 LG4 heads) that are sittin in my back yard otherwise useless.... exactly what would hafta be done to put them on an L03? and if the intake is an issue, would the LG4 intake (with 4bbl quad.) be compatible on our block, provided a carb->tbi plate was in place?

sorry for long post very tired and of course curious, also bypassing a/c recharging disaster for now....

I believe there's just too much material to machine out the swirl and its pointless anyway. I just had my intake off and the ports are terrible too; there is a lot of material that protrudes into the intake ports where the pushrod is going, lot of pinch.

Now, those 416's will be a great option. Look up the member on the boards called "Sitting Bull" he has a link to a thread in his signature that will tell you everything you need to do to those heads.

Yea it would be pointless. That is a ton of material to remove and you risk cracking the castings. You also have large amounts of material around the pushrods like Bron mentioned.

081's are the ones you want in conj8nction with the 601's or 416's. They are all basically the same head but the 081's are center bolt style (post 87) and will be a true bolt on to your LO3. The others require some valve trian swapping and such. 187 are the TBI heads. Stay away from those.

Porting is always good when you have a stock 416, 601, or 081 in front of you. They all can use the same port work.
