IAC idle air control question

If I remove the harness connecting the IAC while the car is idling, what is supposed to happen? My car idles at 2,000 cold right now, and that's high. I can pull off one injector and the car will still idle around 700. If I pull the IAC connector off, it does not influence the way the car idles. I'm guessing the IAC is probably clogged, causing it to be stuck open or something. I don't think there's a gasket leak between the TBI and the manifold... but I could be wrong.

In any case, I'll probably need to pull it off and spray it down with carb cleaner, correct?

oh, and where is this "screw" on the IAC I am hearing of? lol I've never seen any kind of screw, and I thought it was only on TPI... However I was told it's TBI too.

Make sure you put a clean dab of oil or tranny fluid on the pintle and spring of the IAC before you install it. Also, keep carb cleaner away from the TPS. There is no screw on the IAC but you are probably thinking about the idle adjustment srew on the front of the tib unit. There is a round metal plate that covers it and you will have to punch that out. I would try a few more chips first.

It might be more than the IAC if it's idling that high. Check for vacuum leaks and make sure the gasket between the tbi and the intake is sealed and no air is comming in there.

To check if the IAC is your problem, just put your thumb over the hole on the top of the tbi where the air goes in. If you can get it to idle down by that then its your thing, but if not start checking elsewhere.
