EGR Soleniod ???
Well...
Seems I need me an EGR Solenoid to fix my TransAm's Emmissions system. Called around to shops around here and no one has one. I even tried calling the dealer and they were dumbfounded by the thought of the item.
Is there any alternative for the egr solenoid. Can I use one from a newer V8 and get away with it? If not, doe anyone out there in TBI land who gutted their polution equipement have one that they are willing to part with?
Please let me know...seriously want to get this thing up and running properly.
Thanks

I don't think there is an alternative to an EGR solenoid, but I could be wrong. I had a hard time finding an EGR vacuum solenoid for my car, too. I had to go to 3 different auto parts stores and they just sent me in circles. I finally went to a store in a different town and they actually had one. I would just try every auto parts store that you would be willing to drive to until somebody has one.
If you can get the GM part number you may be able to order it from www.gmpartsdirect.com or www.newgmparts.com and get it shipped to you.

Well...today I went on my hunt. Tried all 3 of our junk yards and none to be found. I went to the Pontiac Dealer and that guy was useless...didn't know what I was looking for even after showing him the diagram so I just gave up hope on them. Went to a few third party dealers and they couldn't locate the part. One place had one in stock but it was for a 1992 Silverado 350 but the connector wasn't the right size.
As I was driving home I passed by a Chevy dealer and figured "meh, its worth a shot." Pulled in, went to the parts counter. I talked to the lady at the desk and asked her for the part. She wasn't sure what I wanted so she then said "lets go out to your car and you show me what it is". We went out, I popped the hood and she looked and said "oh you need the EGR Vaccum Solenoid...no problem thats part number 19811973". We went back inside and she punched it all in and located me one at a parts place out in alberta. $66.52 for the part..
So my hunt was succesful. YAY!

Well they had to order it...it won't be here until thursday. I will find out then. I am most certain that this is the problem as it was physically missing from the car from the point when I bought it.
I also woudln't be surprised if the lacking EGR system is the reason for my exhaust to smell so rich.

Well..
We finally figured out how to install the EGR Solenoid. Disconnected the battery, installed the solenoid, hooked up the battery. Fired up the car and right away noticed that my rich fuel smelling exhaust was no longer present.
I then took the car for a long burn down the highway to let the computer re-calibrate. Took it on a 200km tour. No SES light. I think this little solenoid fixed my issue.

yeuppers. Thats what started me on my hunt. Code 32, EGR VAC issue.
I brought it to my buddy who is a mechanic, he looked it over and noticed that there was no EGR Solenoid. Did some scrounging and found 1 at a local chevy dealership. Hooked it up after resetting the computer an no more code 32.

Good deal! That's the info I was looking for. I've got a code 32, and even though I've inspected the EGR valve and found no problems with it I continue to get 32 constantly. Guess I'll start looking for a solinoid. Can you tell me about how much it was? If it's not to much I would like to get GM part instead of generic!
