Neither really. In stock form each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The later model tpis had much nicer ecms, though and would be a good starting point for a custom mpfi system.

If you have a round aircleaner assembly on top of your motor (looks like a carburetor setup) it's TBI. If you have a rectangular intake plenum, with intake runners out the sides, that's TPI.
You probably have TBI, (maybe all RS's were TBI, I dunno, I have a Bird) in which case you need to go straight to the tech articles on "open element installation," to replace your restrictive stock air cleaner (make sure your new air cleaner doesn't touch any wires at the back of the motor). Have fun!.
The TPI motors made more power stock, but there's still lots you can do with the TBI motor. Congrats on getting your car!

Stock RS models with a 305 were all TBI. Just check the eighth letter of your Vin number for the exact engine that came in the car.
