MAT Sensor-- oops

Hi everyone,

A bit of a newb here, learning slowly I have a 91 Firebird with a 305 TBI, and I recently swapped the stock air filter with an Edelbrock open element...now, the car runs great (a lot better than before), but one small problem...where the little wire for the IAT sensor plugs into, I think I threw out the actual sensor (along with the rest of the old air filter unit), and now all I've got left is the wire it's not really affecting the functionality of the car (except maybe gas mileage, so I've heard), but it's causing my Check Engine light to show up after about 10 minutes of driving. It's a Code 23 error.

Dumb mistake, I know...but what can I do to replace this little part? I've heard something about using a 4.7K resistor, or something like that...but wanted to get official word from you all.

Thanks!!

Hey welcome abaord. Just get a new one from any auto parts store. It should be a cheap part.

Thanks...nice ride, sorry to hear about the wreck I was in one about a month ago but amazingly my car walked away without a scratch, very lucky that nobody was hurt and, well, at least my car was undamaged...

I hear that this sensor also goes by the name IAT...which makes sense to me...so something like this might work? It came up when I ran a search, and input data about my car. I found no results for MAT, but did find some for IAT.

Thanks

Thats exactly what you're looking for man. Just drill a hole in the bottom of your open element base and slap her in.

Already drilled the hole, so it's off to AutoZone to buy one of those tomorrow. Thanks for the fast responses guys.
