I have no idea about the power difference.
But the new mustang is about as thrilling as having a rodent crawl into your engine bay, die, rot and hotly waft over you whilst listening to incubus through one raspy speaker.

I don't think simple Hp figures tell the whole story compared to what it's like to drive. Handling,performance,comfort..the car as a whole instead of a peak on a dyno is the test.

Why are there so many mustangs about if there so crap and every where I go I see a thirdgen rotting in someones drive??

does that completely not answer your question?

that is entirely too vague of a question, the hp ratings varied greatly between all the years and all the engines and all the technology changes of both camaros AND mustangs.

generally though, throughout most of that time mustangs were a bit faster, but camaro's KILLED mustangs in handling, so more then likely mustangs had more hp on average, but whether or not they would beat you would depend more on what kind of racing you were doing.

also, 90% of the mustangs I've seen out on the streets have skinnies and fatties, + all engine and no suspension work, so if you wanna race one of them and win, just make sure wherever you race has a lot of turns and you'll kill 'em.

I'm sure the numbers are somewhere on the internet. Do a little research and you should come up with your answer. Good luck!
