Using a carb FP regulator on TBI?
Using a carb FP regulator on TBI?
I happen to have a spare adjustable carb-style FP regulator laying around and I was going to build myself a kit to try to use on various GM TBI-style fuel injection systems.
It's a return-style regulator and could be easily adjusted in TBI-friendly pressure ranges (~15 PSI).
I was thinking about patching it into the external factory fuel and return lines, plugging the return line fitting on the back of the TB and sending the already regulated pressure from the aftermarket regulator's output into factory fuel line fitting on the back of the TB. Seems easier than messing around with anything that would require digging inside the TB unit.
Any reason this wouldn't work?

I think theyre may be some issues with doing it that way. At least Ive seen it posted here. Maybe someone can elaborate.
Another easy way to do it would be to take the stock fuel pressure regulator canister off of the tbi pod and weld some metal over where the cap and metal tang for the spring seat where. This should seal it off. Cut the center out of a diaphram and use the outside as a gasket and put the hollowed out canister in place of the stock regulator. This way fuel will go right through the tbi without being regulated. You can then put an exaust type two way regulator on the return side.
EDIT: Had to make a correction.

Heres the thread. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=261773 Look for RBobs post about 2/3 of the way down.
The vapor lock issue is the most obvious one with the tbi being dead ended like a carb. Ive had vapor lock with tbi but its only momentary as the fuel pump clears out all the hot gas and vapors. The less obvious problem is that here can be issues with pressure drop as stated. When the ecm adds in the additional pulsewidth for acel enrich teh injectors can come close to static and if theyre large injectors they can really draw alot of fuel suddenly and this could cause the pressure to nosedive momentarily. If your just tinkering around with it and not running huge injectors on a modded engine using the carb style regulator probably would work fine.
