help with engine

ok, there is a 305 tbi that has been sitting about 5 years. we went to start it and it will start fine, then die unless the throttle is pumped. it will not stay running at a steady speed.
what could cause this?

I would think the fuel is very suspect after 5 years of sitting. Try some fresh petrol.

That would be my 1st guess......get that car some new/fresh gas and hopefully that will solve your problems.
