Draining Fuel Tank
I didn't see a better place to put this, sorry if it is in the wrong forum.
There is a 92 RS with the 305TBI. The gas in this car is around 5 years old, what is the easiest way to drain the tank?
the car will not run on this gas, it just stumbles around and dies.
thanks for the help.
One more quick question, whats the easiest way to reach the plug wires on cylinders 7 and 8? Do I need to get the car on jack stands and get under it or what?
thanks, Kyle

The easiest way would be to disconnect the soft feed line in the engine bay and use the fuel pump to dump the gas into a gas can. Might take several fills to get it all out but its realatively easy to do. IIRC, one of the sets of pins in the ALDL connector will enable the fuel pump relay.
As for the plugs, just go under the car to get at them.

The pin looks like it supplies power directly to the pump so maybe an extended run might be too much for the wiring. The oil pressure switch above teh oil filter can be used also. Pull the connector off and with reasonably heavy gauge wire jumper the two pins there. Itll supply +12 volts to the fuel pump. This is how I turned my pump on the last time I drained the tank for storage. You might also be able to siphon the tank but I couldnt get a rubber hose down into the tank itself when I tried. Maybe anti-siphon screen in the neck?

Yeah, but only for like two seconds. I think in one of the diagnostic modes all outputs are turned on. Ill have to take a look at that to see what has to be done. Turning on the pump might be as simple as putting a resister in the ALDL connector. You could also try tying pin G to, I think a +12 volt source, but im not sure about it.
EDIT: disregard that first part. The fuel pump conrol is entirly in teh hardware.

The fuel pump relay is on the drivers side firewall. Unhook the fuel filter lines allowing the fuel to drain out then aim the supply line from the tank into a gallon milk container for easy transport and no splash.
Take a paperclip and jumper the fuel pump to run, remove paperclip to turn off fuel pump
.
Replace fuel filter since it's 5 years and who knows what condition it's in.

I would probably just drop the tank myself. then you can look at the condition of the pick-up sock. Running that throught the fuel lines, you are likely to gum up the sock, and the crap won't actualy get out of the tank. you will just move the liquid that passes through, and all the crud, is still there.

Why not use the fuel pump relay bypass terminal that GM installed on your car? First, jack up the rear end and disconnect the hard line to the fuel filter. Run a hose from that to a gas can. Now run a jumper wire from the +12v side of the battery to the terminal sticking out of the bundle on the passenger-side of the car as shown in the picture. The fuel pump will run continuously!

Not all cars have that. If its there, use it. Mine didnt have it so I jsut jumpered the oil pressure switch connector and drained the tank.

The fuel pump relay is 10 times easier to jumper. It only requires a paperclip or short piece of wire. You pull off the relay and jumper the +12 to the fuel pump positive terminal. Pump runs
