New intake

Just got a 2" bored intake, I was looking up the ports for the EGR Valve and they're partially blocked with this kind of gooey black stuff that looks almost like tar. Is this supposed to be here? I would think not, but being new to GM stuff I figured, why not ask.

I just took a look again and its just a HUGE carbon deposit, I'm cleaning it out.

The egr ports can get really nasty after awhile if the intake is used.

Indeed they can. The carbon buildup almost totally blocked the port

The intake that I got from a salvage yard for my truck looked like that too...I had the same question and then after getting it back from being cleaned by a machine shop, it was no longer there.

Well my issue was that the solvent that the remanufacturer had used had made the carbon all gooey, lord knows how, but it did. And I thought it might have been plugged for a reason with this wierd goop crap.
