valve covers

would it work to turn the right valve cover so the breather is at the front? instead of the back of the engine

no.
the valve covers are "tilted" inside... the rockers might rub if you flip it...

if they do rub or not depends on your valve lift and type of rockers you have.

the covers can only be put on one way, if you try to flip them then the centerbolt holes in the heads will not align with the bolt holes in the valve covers

In that case, he could just put them on the opposite side. I had to do that with the valve covers that I bought for my car in order to make them fit. I had to re-route my PCV to the passenger side because the valve covers wouldn't fit like the stockers did.
