Question about air intake
There is a tube that connects from the driver side exhaust manifold to the bottom of the air horn. Does anyone know what it is and what it is for? The tube on the car I am parting is rotted away and I would like to know it this hurts anything.
Thanks,
Jim

Sounds like the THERMAC. What happens is, when the incoming air is really cold - too cold, there is a little sensor inside the air cleaner that will supply vacuum to a solenoid that will open a little door right above where that tube connects. Then hot air from around the exhaust manifold will rise up through the tube and help to heat the engine up faster. This is a good thing. If you live somewhere where it gets faily cold, I strongly reccomend you keep that piece. I have removed it on my car before, and the result has been apparent in a few things. For instance, the engine will sometimes 'diesel', or continue to run, after I turn the key off. Again, bad. But that only happened when I had my cold air intake installed, and then what I think happened was that it got too much cold air, and the THERMAC couldnt compensate properly. Then again, it was like ten below at the time.
Hope that helps.
