I saw some where on TGO where LT1 heads would fit gen one block with extensive modification and then use of lt1 would be preferred and practical. But anything close to direct, NO, not at all.

LT1's have reverse flow cooling. They won't match up to your block right and aren't worth any modification to fit. LS1 heads are completely different.

Now I'm confused. Are you sayin that the LS1s are different than the LT1s or are they different from the stock heads?

Do you think LS1 heads would fit on my 89 350 (carb)?

Alright Lt1 heads and Ls1 heads are not the same. LS1 heads have never been put on a gen 1 block. With a bunch of work Lt1 heads have been put on a gen 1 block. Stock heads are gen 1. Vortec heads are gen 2, however will bolt-on relatively easy except you have to use vortec style intake. A lot of Gen 1 block and Gen 2 block are the same except when it comes to reverse cooling.

LS1 heads are a whole other animal and will not work at all.
LT1 heads can be made to work with extensive work to them but it is not worth it on a 305 TBI.

416, 081 or vortecs are your best bet.
