Mainfold Gasket
do i need to take everything off the mainfold to change it? or can i leave the trottle body on? thanks

You sure can if you want to. The only things you really have to remove are the distributor, air cleaner, the 3 cables that attach to the TBI unit (TV, gas, and cruise control cables), upper radiator hose, and intake manifold bolts. Although, all the wiring, vacuum lines, etc. will have to be moved out of the way, of course.
But, it will be easier if you remove most of the stuff attached, especially when your reinstalling it. It's not easy or fun to try and position the intake manifold slowly and carefully back on the motor with all the stuff still on. And, if you do it this way, you will have a great opportunity to replace all of the other gaskets that are or will end up needing replacement anyway, like the TB mounting gasket, thermostat housing gasket, etc.

You can leave it on but as Benm saids by the time you unhook everything only 3 bolts will be holding it on. I always just take it off so that I have clear access to the intake bolts.
