upgrading from 305 to 96 vortec 350

help?

i'm wanting to upgrade my 87 305 to the 96 vortec 350,....

i got a 96 vortec 350 roller motor from a donor truck

but i need to use my tbi on it with my 87 computer

what do i need to do to make this work?

anyone know where i can get a "cheap" intake for this?...the only one i've found so far that will accept this swap is around $300

thanks

Too make it work, you would need any carb vortec intake, a carb->TBI adapter, some EGR hardware, and some funky voodoman prom burning skills. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of odd and ends, but for the most part, i tihnk that's about it.

Unfortunately, almost any vortec intake (that I know of) is around the $250-$350 mark. Start checking around auction sites like Ebay.

There are a couple of off brands out there that sale in the $140 range. I think the best bet to get a good proven intake would be an Edelbrock Performer for Vortec heads. They run under $200 and i belive will fit under a stock hood even with a tbi adapter. Don't forget you'll need larger injectors and chip work too.

what adapter are you talking about?

i'm wanting to use my existin complete throttle body injection on the vortec heads

i'm "not" wanting to use a carbed tbi to vortec intake...

i was just hoping maybe someone had some good advice on this mod, or maybe someone would know of a cheaper intake than the $300 + intake i need from GM

Okay look -

If you want to use Throttle Body Injection with a Vortec "Headed" motor, You will NEED:

Either a TBI intake manifold meant to be used with Vortec heads, or a carb intake, with TBI adapter (Turbocity, CFM-Tech, etc.), to bolt onto the heads.

If you want to use all of the 96 equipment (ECM etc.) good luck, and check here http://medusa.ih8mud.com/cruiser/Vortec.html

We've gave you intake options to use your TBI on vortec heads, but you simply don't understand what you are being told. Do you understand the basic parts of an engine? Block, heads, Intake, etc? In order to use vortec heads you will need a vortec intake. In order to put TBI on top of a vortec intake, you will either need a TBI specific intake, or an adpater plate to mount the TBI onto a normal carb intake. YOU CAN USE TBI ON A CARB INTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't deal with you anymore, I gotta go....

Well how many times did we say the same thing over and over.... and over. Patience begins to wear thin after the fourth, and fifth time of telling you how to do something, and you saying you don't want to do it, but demanding an answer on how to do it.

I didn't think a picture guide was needed for adults.

If you want to do it on the cheap then find a Hot Rod, Car Craft or Chevy High Performance magazine and look thru some of the full page ads from PowerHouse or PAW. They seem to have the cheaper vortec intakes in them. Just remember you get what you pay for and the cheap stuff is made in China.

Yeah don't worry about the harda$$ tones some guys take. But I've heard a lot of troubles with imitation intakes like Performer intake imitations. If I were you, I'd get an Edelbrock Vortec Performer RPM manifold, an adapter plate from Turbo City, because I think tehy have one with centered bores, and either a Holley 670 or 454 TBI unit, or I'd think about the one's on ebay that are stock TBI units bored to 50mm.

Good luck with it, just know that it's going to take some chip tuning to get a combo like this dialed in right, you'll be disappointed if you don't read up on that.
