350 Tbi
I was browsing the Skoggin Dickey website and they have 2 new motors. Both are 350 TBI that put out 275 and 350 HP. And they are doing this on the TBI heads? And the camshafts are'nt too radical. Is'nt that stretching it a little bit? Anyone have input on this? Anyone on this board using one of those motors?

I don't think they are stretching it. The 193 heads have been shown, with slight port work, to flow near stock L31 (vortec) and LT1 heads. There has been many heated discussions of swirl port heads and performance. I would do a few searches for Fast355. He has had some great threas in regaurds to his near stock TBI set-ups. Chances are he will post in this thread.
IIRC the highest output LO5 was 220hp. It is not too far fetched to think that a bigger cam, headers, chip tuning, and intake can yeild an additional 55hp.

No it's not out of the question. A few guys on here have proven that you don't need huge cams to make good streetable power with a 350 TBI. The bitch of the whole thing is getting the computer tuned. (as Shifty so emphatically and often harps on, but with those systems you pointed out isn't an issue)
At this point in time I would sell my soul for someone to strap mine to a dyno and tune it. Finding TBI tuners in Atlanta is like trying to find the Holy Grail or something, but I got about a dozen guys within 1 square mile who could tune an OBD-II or TPI setup.

If they're the engines I'm thinking about, the heads aren't swirl port but a newer replacement.
Look here for non-bumpy TBI heads

Geez, I don't know if I should laugh or cry, or both. Not at you, but at SDPC's website claims.
What's the real kicker here is that they claim to be making 275hp with a stock 350 swirl port engine with what appears to be a near stock cam with more lift, a larger TBI (which has been proven that airflow isn't the issue), tuning, and a performer intake manifold. Okay, fine, I'll believe that because I've got no reason not too
. Seriously though, I will give them the benifit of the doubt on it.... until I read that the 350hp version is the same engine only with a larger intake manifold and more cam
. Yeah, there you go. That should be enough proof for me to shut up about pushing numbers around right? I mean come on, they've just gone and said on their website that with an RPM intake and a "mild" roller cam they picked up 130hp. That's like what, 50hp from the intake and maybe 80hp from the cam. Sheesh, why did I even bother with vortec heads
.
Another thing that needs pointing out is the cam specs on that "350+ hp". It just so happens to match the FLAT tap cam offered in the gmpp 330hp crate engine, only they're saying it's a roller. Hmm... I don't know what to believe anymore. Oh, and $800 they charge for a performer to RPM intake upgrade and cam with different specs
. You'd have to be a moron to not see something fishy about this. Then there's the whole TBI scene... who's bought these "powerful TBI" engines and gotten some decent times out of them in an f-body? For crying out loud there are how many thirdgens on this board alone that came with TBI? Sure more trucks had em but if you look at the numbers the f-body's got a LOT of TBI engines in them. But still, nobody's tried it and probably for good reason... because they're blowing smoke up our *** with their horsepower claims. I'll let a certain somebody say that swirl port heads are good for that but until I see an f-body run faster than dyno don I'll just keep preaching the swirl ports as crap (not as crappy when ported but far from ideal or even GM's latest cheap iron heads and that's comparing ported to untouched).
So come to your own conclusions but until I see a real dyno graph showing those power numbers I won't believe it so neither should you.
