so my car has got to be stret legal and pass emmisions. so my question is this.

what is the biggest cam i can go with and still pass emmisions. anybody have any experiences with this??

 

I may be wrong on this one ... but ya may want to try asking on the DIY PROM board .. they should know this rather well

 

Make sure the overlap is high enough for the duration on the cam.

I had a 206/210 duration (@ .050") and my overlap was 112 and that was enough for the sniffer.

Don't you mean LSA of 112?

A cam with overlap as high as 112 would be strictly for racing, and only racing. The duration with at 112 LSA would have to be ~335* on both the intake and exhaust.

A reasonable overlap for a CC engine would be 40-50* at the most.

 

Used a 5 gas analyzer on my L82 cammed beast 312. 224/224 @ .050, .450/.461 lift/ 115* lobe center. Would have passed easily and I am without a catalytic converter. Would have passed the standards on my moms 1995 Acura(know them all too well after trying to make it pass on what I found to be a bad injector).

 

Comp Cams and Crane Cams make computer/emissions friendly cams. Most have a LSA around 116.
