3.73

I would like to have a 3.73 rear gear in my Camaro for more acceleration because I dont need the top end as much. I have no business going over 120 so theres no point of having 2.73's. But how much time will having a 3.73 gear cut off from my stock 305 tbi with 53000 miles?

How much would it cost for a chevy dealership to change it to 3.73 gear? Do you suggest the 411 gear?

What transmission do you have, the 700r4 or the T5. For a T-5 3.42 is as much as I would go for a street driven near stock TBI 305 camaro. If you have a 700r4 I would say 3.23:1. Lets face it an engine that redlines at 4,500 and has the bottem end torque of the L03, just doesn't need much gear. Add a good cam, good springs, full exhaust, and a good tune, then you will be able to take advantage of an even lower gear. 2,500 RPM @ 70 with 3.73s and a 700r4 would get old very fast. 80 Would drive you closer to 3,000 RPM on the tach, turning your fuel mileage to crap.

I was able to get some decent drops in 60' times by going from 3.08s to 3.73s in mine, but I have a taller tire than you and ALOT more WEIGHT. My 3.73 gear and tire size is going to be more like you having a 3.23-3.42 gear. My 3.08 is roughly equivelant to your 2.73 as well. I also have a beast of a 305 that likes to pull to 6,000+ RPM.

First off, please do a search, you'll see this is a very common question. And secondly, PLEASE post topics in the forum they most pertain to! Your question belongs in the transmission/drivetrain forum, because it's about transmission/drivetrain stuff, not the TBI. This forum is for questions pertaining to the actual Throttle Body, or as close as you can get. Sorry to use your post as an example, I'm really not trying to pick you out, this is just a good example to use for all. Try searching first, and if you don't get the answer you were looking for hit up that other forum. Thanks!!!
