Im going for a cheap build up I will probley get flamed for this but it’s my car and im in high school and thats how it go's. anyway im going to have a lt1 cam, thoughs cheapo headers from summit racing, a hooker cat back and I will probley have my exhaust shop in town make me a y-pipe I already have the ultimate tbi mods done as for the chip ive talked to tbichips.com I know what you guys think about thoughs chips but then again its my car and I just don’t want to bs with the chip burning I also will have 3.42's. I have ws6 suspension and will probley be replacing shocks and struts to if that helps any.

Than our advice would be to skip the cam swap. You will have nothing but problems if you do not do the chip work yourself. A full exhaust (headers back) alone should be combined with chip work. A single burnt mail order chip will not cut it. You will save more money and have a better running car if you bite the bullit and do it yourself.

How hard is it to get into chip burning? And would it be difficult to make a chip that the car would run on to start with

It is not too hard because of the wealth of info on this website. Check out the DIY PROM board as well as the advanced discussions in the stickies above. TGO has the best resources as far as chip burning is concerned.

It depends on how much you initially learn and how well you apply your new found skills. Typically it is best to start on a completely stock motor. That was you can acclimate yourself to the process of chip burning with the comfort of returning to the stock tune in a flash. You can see the big picture better that way than if you jump into a modded motor that is horribly out of tune.
