Porting the L05

This is my first post on this Board.. I have been over at full size chevy dot com... I have been reading over the many posts on porting the swirl port l05 heads (fast 355 and dyno don among others). I know a lot of people feel that these heads are junk but from what I have gathered, they will work in my application. I need a head that will work with minimal tuning and have good bottom end torque under 5k. I have checked locally and I dont know anyone that ports. There has been mentioned here that there are places that will pocket port these heads for short money ($200 or less) and I was wondering if anyone could post the name of a place. I live in Mansfield Mass and I would prefer someplace local, but I can't imagine that L05 heads are getting top dollar, so I will be willing to pay for a new set and have them shipped. I recall a post from Irocbirdbuilder that there was a place that guarantees 30HP for $175 bucks. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance and thanks for having me as a guest on Thirdgen dot Org...There is a ton of wonderfull information here.

Welcome aboard!

I would make a post in your regonal forum and see if the locals there can point you to a place. Are you sure you can't do it yourself? Most engine machine shops will offer some sort of head porting.

Any shop that has a flowbench, does porting. Above is Superflow's list -- there are probably other bench mfgs besides Superflow, so there are likely other shops that flow/port besides these.

Several listed are in MA and RI that are near Mansfield. Make sure you print the relevant web pages so the machine shop knows what to do. HTH.
