Modding performance parts?
How many here have had to modify the parts that they have purchessed to get the most out of them? When I got my intake and headers in I noticed that the ports on the intake and headers were smaller than stock! So I thought the hell with this I gasket matched both the headers and intake to flow as much as I could.to get the most "seamless" flow as possible.I'll post some pics soon.Any body else done this? Chime in!!!

It is very common to clean up casting flash/flaws on aftermarket parts (heads, intakes, etc). Likewise, when header tubes are welded to the head flange there can be a large weld size tolerance (depending on the weld operator). The respective manufacturer of those parts will not "touch up" or “port match” their product because it would drive the cost up. Some companies do and will say "CNC ported" or "CNC finished". Just because your headers appeared to be smaller doesn't hold much merit. Its the rest of the part that matters.

Yeah shift I know that but when I said my intake was smaller than stock it REALLY was.I mean the ports were pathetic.so not just "cleaning up the casting flaws" I opened the ports to the size of my felpro gaskets.when I took the gaskets to match the heads they were only a touch off so i left the heads alone for now.As far as the 2055's the welding flash left quite a bit of "overhang"into the exhaust port.So i cleaned those up to match the exhaust gaskets without cutting into the welds to deeply.I just wanted to know how many others have done this as well.I have nothing but respect for you on these boards. No need to sound so condisending.

Constantly. I assume that most parts are not going to fit exactly with each other. When you start dealing with several manufactures, you end up having to do some work to make everything fit.

my heads were installed by a friend that happens to be a professional performance engine builder. he stated the quality of the most recent edelbrock head was the best he has ever seen. CNC you bet. i wanna think i read(CHP) in 2002-2003 they invested in some high tech maching equiptment at Edel.
