Once it got hot out again my car started over heating a lot, when i checked it out i found out my thermostat was stuck shut. This cause an extremley rough idle resulting in a loud banging noise. I took my thermostat out, and everything is running good, the idle is better and the banging went away except for right at 1000rpm the banging comes back and the idle gets really rough and i cant figure out why. Is there anything i can do to smooth out the idle, do i need to put a new thermostat is right away? Will adjusting the idle fix it, because once i start the car thats right where it idles, once i drive for a little the rpms drop at idle and it stops, expect for slowing down the the car hits those rpms.

First put the thermostat back in. Then work from there.

Banging is not good. Have you tried to locate the noise. I had a waterpump on a truck go south, sounded like all hell was breaking loose under the hood, but it was still not leaking! Hopefully it is something simple and not engine damage from overheating.

Yea i was actually thinking it was my water pump but when my dad(who thinks he is the car god but doesnt know ****) goes, oh well its not leaking so its not broken. Thanks for posting that im going to shove that in his face that it can be broken and not leak.

Did yours bang all the time or just like at lidle and low rpms?
