replaced that loosy L03 aircleaner finally
i bought an edlebrock 14" aircleaner assembly today. 30 bucks at autozone it is really a mod on a budget. i think i get some more power, that stock L03 unit is a piece s***. how much more power do i see by changing this out? 5,10,15 HP any idea. i would say between 5-10 Hp. i know i get some increase. it also makes a much healther sound. i like that howl, i dont like silinced crap. the unit i bought came with a paper element and when i eventually have to change it im going K&N. autozone had 2 different edlebrock units "pro-cleaner" and and "elite" model than came with a K&N. the more expensive one was 80 bucks! i thought 50 bucks difference was alot for something that did the same job. im sure a K&N doesnt cost 50 bucks, im guessing around 30 bucks. my next mod is going to be exuast next year. CAT, HEADS, MUFFLER, 3" PIPES. i want this girl to live up to her potential. would like to replace heads and cam but those require a little "under the knife" work. i want to see how much i can gain with just "bolt ons" first and then ill move onto internals.

changing the air cleaner probably didn't do anything for you. yes, it's getting more air, but it's getting all hot air now, where before it was getting cooler air by the headlight. two options i see for making more power with air intake
1. get a cowl hood to get some cooler air going to that open element
2. keep the stock hood and put a dual snorkel air cleaner on it to get MORE cool air
but it does sound cool.
next make sure you do headers(hooker 2055's) and a good 3" catback(of your choice, they all flow about the same)
and get some subframe connectors before you do many more engine modifications. these cars flex like a wet noodle when power is applied.

no winter time for my car
winter time in buffalo means salt and salt means that youre willing to condem your car to a junk yard in a few years. well thats not going to happen to my baby
maybe someday ill move down south, ill take my awesome car with me back to where she came from greensboro N.C. and then ill drive it year round
. i dont like the idea of not driving my car for 6 months but its much worse to destory it.
by the way a prevous owner had already removed the hood seal. i think this actually helps me out. when i open the hood i dont get that "oven effect" which means its somewhat vented. i would love to get a hood with and opening toward the rear like a cowl induction look, the kind that you can see the aircleaner from inside the car. and exaust is my next planned mod, next summer. hooker or headman headers, catco high flow cat, 3" cat back flowmaster "american thunder" or "40 series". i want my car to be heard, just below legal decibal limits. i want people to know that an chevrolet small block powered camaro is in the area.

i dropped about .1 off my time once i got a cowl hood. i credit part of that to the weight loss over the heavy stock hood. i credit the other part of that to the cooler air coming in. i built a pan to seal the carb(i'm carbed btw) to the hood and dropped another .1. so by going to a cowl hood with a sealed air pan to get ONLY cool air to the motor over a factory hood and an open element, i dropped a total of two tenths of a second in quarter mile time. in a 3300lbs. car, that's like a 15-20hp increase JUST by assuring it had cold air getting into the motor.
now, i have an 82 crossfire hood with the flapper taken off so it's getting all kinds of cooler air coming in with the air-pan sealed to the carb. if you look down into the holes, you can see the four barrels of the carb sitting right there with the aluminum air pan all around it...here is a pic of that hood, though not on my car

it's proven that getting colder air to the motor will make more power.

i estimate a gain of 1 HP if your lucky more when the engine is cool but it lets hot air into the engine when its warmed up. It makes it sound nicer though.

I just recently did that swap with a friend of mine on my 305 TBI and I think i notice a power increase of maybe 5hp. The sound is alot better, and we left the original snorkel in to get at least SOME cool air circulating through a direct area. While it may not reach the cleaner specifically, it still pushes through some cold air.
Added bonus, it makes my engine bay a little more shinier

i don't believe you can feel 5hp. your mind is tricked when you hear more sound and it makes you think you've got more hp...which is why all the little ricerockets around my area think they are hot stuff...their car is loud...and loud=fast, right?

I agree fully. You cant feel 5hp and an open ele doesnt give you 10 or 15hp gain... well unless your a civic with a giant wing on the back and a shiny coffee can for a muffler.. then you get 50hp just from the air filter and another 25 for each sticker you put on that comes in the box. Instead of spending 30$ here and there for little bs mods that make you sound fast save up 100-200$ and get some headers or something... thats what im doing
thats like a 20-40hp gain. I bet you can feel that. Good luck with your 3rd gen!

yeah save your money for real mods unless your just trying to dress it up a little bit. I got an open ele for looks, but i also just installed headers and full exhaust.

30 bucks for an open element? Geez I made mine for less than ten bucks out of a TBI truck lid and the lid that came off the car.At least your Autozone has one.The only one here has drop base cleaners and I wanted a flat base.
