Right Now my Ignition is set at 0*TDC, I get Around 22mpg... Not very powerful above 3000Rpm, What can i set my timing at for More Torque/HP? I have a Timing light, and I want to set my timing For More TQ/HP at the Drag Strip, and then set it back to 0* if recomended.. Thanks, Nick Hall

A would have netted you the answers you seek. Most people can run 2-4 deg with no problems. On the top end you can actually use a little more, but it will tend to envoke knock retard in the mid to low rpm range. This is just a generalization mind you, every motor is different, and a lot has to do with the type of gas you have in your area.

so if i run 6* i will throw the hp up a few 1,000 rpm's?

if i run 4* its not the best but theres no knocking and im safe from detenation Or however you spell it...

NO, it doesn't move the HP curve at all. It will however increase cylinder pressure at all points. Be careful though, because swirl ports don't like more than 28-30* total advance @ WOT and the upper RPMs.

The main thing you will notice will be increased throttle response, increased MPG, smoother take-off from idle, better low-speed pull, and quicker 60's provided the extra timing doesn't just make you burn tires more.

What I meant by it, is that the old 36-38* total timing rule does not work for them. You won't necessarily have detonation and ping, but you will start to lose power, fast. I have personally seen swirl ports lose over 20 FWHP on a 250 HP engine by running at 34* timing advance vs. 28. The 10:1 355 ran just fine on 87 octane and 28* timing while making 250 FWHP @ 4,000 and 358 ft/lbs @ 3,400.
