LT1 cam....tune necessary?
I am thinkin about swapping in a LT1 cam. If I do, I plan to replace the timing chain set and the valve springs.
My question is would I need a tune for the car to run. I mean, will the car run and drive without reprograming the computer? And would I notice an increase in power? I know that the engine would make more power with a tune to compliment the cam, just want to know if I need one. Thanks!!

yea It might run but not very good the lt1 cam will exceed the limitations of your stock untuned ecm and you would most likely lose power, you could get into tuning for about the same cost of having some one make you a chip like TBI CHIPS does but your tune would be exactly right for you car and most likely the "tbichip" wouldn’t be. there’s allot of power to be gained from a stock l03 in just tuning alone and by the time you get the hang of it with your stock motor you would be ready for the lt1

Ok. That's what I was figuring, just wanted to make sure. I figured something in the range of $140 for vavle springs/ timing chain set + the cost of the cam. And tuning equipment. Would I need the $85 one or the $325 to retune and burn the chip? Thanks for the advice!
PS, which type of chip do I need?

The car will run alright with the LT1 cam. I ran mine for about 3 weeks before i got a tune done and it was fine. Just that with the tune, the ECM utilized the cam a lot more.
I also did the injector spacer, edelbrock tbi manifold, valve seals, and a few other things i can remember at the same time also...
