Top end TBI combo questions
Top end TBI combo questions
OK, first by top end I don't mean high MPH I mean the carb/intake/heads/exhaust/cam combo of an engine.
I want to use stock parts where I can for that wonderful sleeper car image.
I am thinking
INTAKE
#7525-Weiand Stealth SIngle plan with EGR http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...AMSM/7525.html
HEADS
305HO #416 heads rebuilt with HD valve springs
CAM
Crane Compucam #2032 http://www.cranecams.com/master/apps/chevy37.htm
EXHAUST
1989-1992 L89 factory exhaust manifold "LOG" with factory Y pipe aand a high flow CAT going into a 3" intermediate pipe and then to a fourthgen SLP takeoff muffler with mailslot tips.
CARB
ultimate TBI of course with stock chip and 350 Caprice or truck injectors capped by an Open element with THERMAC and PCV filter
Problems I wonder about
1. Does the WEIAND have bosses for mounting my 87-up divorced coil HEI.
2. 416 heads are not centerbolt so they will bolt directly to the WEIAND, BUT will they be missing any needed bosses for AIR or AC or etc.
3. Will the TBI sit well on WEIAND and be able to work with stock non-modified linkage.

are you planning to keep the stock hood for your "sleeper" look. the weiand intake is slightly taller than stock, plus you hafta put an adaptor on top of that to mount the tbi, that may make it too tall. really all most people do is glance at an engine, if there ain't a lot of shinny stuff or aluminum bits they will stop looking very quickly. my best advice on an intake would be to get a performer rpm and a can of matte black paint. it will look like you wiped off the stock manifold basically. for heads i would suggest world products torquer 305's. they are steel so they won't stand out at all and they have good flow characteristics.
the cam sounds good. while you have everthing apart you may want to get some roller rockers to get every last pony out of the car.
the exhaust is a pretty good place to make some gains. the l98's will work good, but i would port them out as much as possible to take full advantage. have a good y-pipe made while you are at it. it can't really be seen from the top anyway.
i have done and seen a lot of street racing in my life. the part about no shine or obvious aluminum is the key to a good sleeper.

Mike, you might not want to go with 350 injectors on your 305. I have read more than one post that they are too large for a lightly modded 305. you might consider boring out your stock TBI to 48 mm and getting a matched set of injectors or just increasing your fule pressure.Modifying your TBI may also require some E-prom programming in the form of a "custom" chip or burning your own.Check the archives on this stuff, its loaded with helpful discussion....bob
