Custom TBI Spacer

This is a TBI spacer/adaptor I made a work 2day. It's made from 1/2" phenolic and is bored 2.04" on the top tapering down to 1.70".I'm going put a 454 truck TB on my L03, so I made this to adapt it to my stock intake. I've read posts saying the 454 TB is a bit much for a pretty much stock 305, so I made this adaptor is only 1/2" thick, in hopes that the rather abrubt angle from the 2.00" bore to the 1 11/16" bore will create turbulence, therefore, maybe restoring some of the bottom end torque you lose with the bigger TB -- just a theory -- I will let you know in early Jan.-- that's when the test and tune seesions at the track open back up, and I'm going to do back to back runs, changing just the TB and adaptor.

I can't make the URL work, Oh well...

If anyone knows how to post this from site please feel free to do so.

Funny in a way seeing the BRE.
I worked for one in 1970, when it was Brock Racing Enterprises, Pete Brock that designed the Cobra Coupes was the owner, and raced Datsuns for the factory.

For grins, might try an open one.
For the way I like to drive, generally the larger the plenum the better. I generally will trade a little low end for some more on top, just a FWIW.

Yes, I am going to make some different styles. I'm pretty sure that after I change cam, heads, intake, the open style wiil be the ticket. I am going to make the adaptor to mount TBI on a 4 barrel intake also. I thinking of using a low rise single plane intake and an open adaptor, but it will be a little while down the road, because after X-mas, I'll be working feverously to get my 82 Z ready for Spring -- I can almost hear the 12:1, 600"= lift 383!!! but after I get it going, I'm going after a subtle, totally streetable, good handling high 13 sec car(that's my goal)that I can drive anywhere and get descent mileage -- Yeah, I know... I coulda got a LTI, but i gave $2200.00 for the RS w/ a 26k mile engine, cold air, all power acc., emmaculate interior, and a perfect body, so I'm gonna trick it out, and save the cash for the fast one.

I made another spacer, just like this one except w/ stock size 1 11/16 holes and it made a noticable difference. The car doesn't seem to get as slugglish as it did once when it gets warm. The car runs now, all the time, like it only used to on cool, dry mornings - I guess the phenolic is really doing the trick, cutting down on some of the heat transfer from the intake to the TB. I haven't tried the 454 TB yet, I am planning to change heads and cam soon, and I think I'll wait till then.
