670 Holley TB questions

Well, then here is another question. I found a used Holley 670 for about 100.00 and its being shipped to me as we speak. Assuming that all Holley's are truck applications, so all Holley 670 TB's SHOULD have the TV cable tab right?

Gho,

They have a spot for the nipple but I think the radius can be "off" for the TH700. ie, TH700 radius should be about 1.1" whereas the TH350 radius is a little larger, like 1.375", which causes the TV to "adjust out" farther than proper, causing low Trans pressures at lower throtle settings = burnt bands, if you have good low-range torque/operability and a LOWER-stall converter...

Hey Snuf, pixs would be great man. Broker, if I understand properly, you're saying that a truck with a 350, would have the kickdown cable 1.3 inches from the pivot rod, where the 700R4 tab is 1.1 inches from the point right?

Yep. Kinda like any Holley carb: The radius distance to where you put the nipple for the TH350 (or any other nipple, I guess) is always more than the TH700 distance... B&M has a transKit download (55meg?, the biggest one there) that has some NICE pictures of what the dimensions are "supposed" to be for the TH700. I believe that some of the Holley arms, even for the trucks, are the wrong radius but hard to tell for most. Just allows a little too much band slippage from the lower pressure... It's a cummulative thing and if you tow/race/beat, tranny wwill cry out loud from the LOW THROTTLE use that caused the damage, believe it or not. In 3/4-WOT, TV cable is pulled ok, for the most part...

I'd be curious to see what these guys have for radii on the 670cfm Holley pieces vs Rochester 670 (and small) pieces, as well as yours? Snuffy has all the parts lying around at home/dealer, I bet... Measure time.

Here it is, i dont know what the radius is though. I just coppied the points from my 305 tbi. i drilled out the nips on the 454 linkage, and made a little peice that his bolted to it with aftermarket carb nips from advanced auto parts. $4 bucks a peice!! Anyway, the 454 linkage didnt have a bottom linkage for my tranny, so thats why i coppied my 305s linkage onto a peice of steel and bolted everything thru that. Hope you can see what im talking about in the pics.

notice the center line. I dont know the radius, but its the same as the 305 linkage. since this pic was taken, i rounded out all the holes quite a bit so that i could adjust everything more. Ive tightened up my tranny cable so that it holds gear to higher rpm under lower throttle position. I dont know if this is bad for my tranny, but it sure drives a lot more fun, more responsive and shifts firmer.

One would think that Holley would be smart enough to include the proper holes for a 700R4 since many of the S-10's and 1500's came with the 700. It would seem to me that it'd be easier on them to just drill them for several different patterns than to hope that we get it right. DOH.

Snuf, in your pix, you have cruise control also it looks like, right?

Well, it doesn't look a bit like Snuf's and I'm not sure how its going to fit. I mean, it looks very different from my Caprice TB so I guess a drill and some fabrication is in order. Anyone out there got a Holley 502-5 truck TBI that they've modified for use with a 700R4? I need some pics if you can on how you modified it to work.

ya, the middle one would be cruise control.

Like i said, i fabricated the rounded peice of 1/8 steel and it is bolted to the origianal linkage after i drilled out the origional nips. There was no lower link for my tranny.

just from what ive seen of holleys linkage, in pics. i think something like what i did could be used in almost any other case.

Im sure you can figure somethin out.

Well, I took a bunch of measurements last night and I found that from the cable bracket at the back of the manifold to the pivot pin(s) the two throttle bodies are kinda similar. They have exactly 1.5 inches of travel from closed to WOT. But, I think I'm going to have to move both pins from facing the outside, to the inside of the bracket like your throttle cable is now. I will also have to shorten the throttle cable exactly 1 inch to make it the correct length because the Holley throttle pin is set towards the back of the car 1 inch more than the stock TBI. So my choice is either A) shorten the throttle cable or B) weld a 1 inch peice of metal to the throttle body arm and move the pivot forward an inch. *sigh*

But its all cool like you said. Just irritating.
