Mild 305

OK Folks,
Thx so much for all information so far and yes Fast355 I am going to go with the vortec 350 once I start my engine swap. Thx for the advice once again. I am looking at driving my 91 RS LO3 5spd for a couple of years while I build the engine and need a little bit more information. Most items will be transferrable to the new 350 when I finish it.

1. Ultimate TBI mods-- currently in work.
2. Crank underdrive pulley
3. EDL TES - with air for TPI car.
4. Suspension mods slowly.
5. EDL Performer Intake with adapter plate.
6. Reading through information on how to Tune--- Proms. ADL cable in work.

My question is, I have an l98 cam that I bought for 20 bucks, will this help me at all or a waste of my time?

Is there anything I am missing to make a little 230ish hp engine or will what I have up top not get me there?

planning on swapping out the heads? Are you still running the stock exhaust with manifolds? Open Air element intake?

That could probably get you to 230 hp at the crank, but I'd step it up to an LT1 cam, you won't lose anything in terms of driveability.

I am not swapping out the intake manifold at this point. I am going to put as little into this engine as possible for the next couple of years with most of my efforts going toward the vortec 350. As far as installing the L98 Cam, will I have to tune the chip at this point?
I am not changing the heads for the 305.
I have installed an open element.
I am working on Throttle Body that was given to me from a junk yard.

My question is I guess is the L98 cam a waste of my time? Would it work with 1.6 rockers?

-ADL cable almost done
-Next step order programmer and chips.

I'm not a fan of the L98 cam personally. Bill (azvolfan) had one in his car with stock intake, 416 TPI heads, roller rockers and full exhaust and I think it dyno'd at ~180-185 rwhp. My car with stock heads, stock rockers, an LT1 cam and an Edelbrock Intake put down 192 rwhp that same day. His car was an auto, mine's a manual and a few other small differences, but I really was expecting more out of that combo and I think the L98 Cam was holding it back. Also with some more tuning I got that number up to 216 rwhp. Maybe Bill or Nic (snuflupigus, who bought the car) can chime in and shine more light on the subject, but I'd say at least move up to the LT1 cam or just go all out and follow the buildup that Fast355 stuck up on this board.

Oh and try to get into tuning as soon as possible, that way you can start making little changes now so you don't have to dive into a full on tune for a new engine.

Thx again guys. I am looking at trying my hand at tunning after the 1st of the year. Will post things as I go of course. Just trying to make a plan at this point.
