tbi zz4 and holley 670 replacement or...carb?

Ok. I made a great deal on a firebird about 3 years ago, knowing it was going to get a ***** transplant later on. Last summer I ripped the 305 out and droopped a zz4 in it. Now I have this beautiful black baby with loads of power, with the original 5 spd. I'm pretty happy with it, except I know I'm starving this poor thing of fuel. I kept the original tbi setup and replaced the actual injectors with 350 injectors, and this helped monumentally, but not enough. It's been about a year now, and it's time for some change. I'm actually considering a carb....somebody talk me out of this, or convince me. Unfortunately, it's my driver too, so down time is critical.

It's fast baby, just not fast enough! I get momentary senses of starvation around 3000 rpm, and then it jumps to life.

you need a custom chip. and most likely boosted fuel pressure.

im w/ Taz on that one. a holley 67- or a 454 TBi unit and a custom chip and you would be on your way.

What modifications did you do when you dropped the zz4 in? Any? My friend needs an engine and he is going to buy the L03 replacment this summer because he wants to be able to drop it in and drive it without any further mods. I advised him to get the caprice L05 because it's only like 40 bucks more. What all did you have to do? Has it given you any problems besides the power problem?

GMMP reccomends a 750cfm carb with the ZZ block. I would try finding maybe a 750cfm TB unit or something close to it. I asked the GMPP guys what injection system they reccomend for the engine, and of course they said carb. But I don't see why some sort of aftermarket intake and a tb unit close to 750cfm wouldn't do just as good with a custom prom of course.

One of the things about dual planes is they like a 10-20% or so bigger carb than whats required on a single plane.

in response to one of my favorite questions. What else did I do for mods? Very very little. I'm running 275's in the rear, so air shocks to lift the *** up an inch or two. When I was launching, it was unfortunately dropping my car unto the rear tires....a problem I was glad to have/solve.

Nearly all of my sensors switched over directly, and it was fairly painless. The fuel shortage is no small task, but again, it's been more than worth it. It's a plain black firebird, so aside from the new rims/tires it's a sleeper. I love ripping mustangs and the occasional (older) vettes apart. The flowmaster exhaust is a fair warning, but there are so many 3'rd gen dogs out there, everyone TRIES to race it. The first day I drove the car with the zz4 dropped in it, I felt more like a pilot than a driver.

How did you solve the fuel problem? Injectors, regulator?
