oil

Hey, I went to replace my intake with an open element today and when i pulled the top off my stock... there was oil in where the air filter is.. Ive heard this can be due to a broken pcv valve or something like that, Sound right? if so, how do i fix it, where is it, etc etc. I need detailed info cuz im not mechanically inclined.

it's just residue fromt he breather that goes into the pass. side of the air box. there should not be enough there to puddle, but there will likely be a nice film over the bottom of the tray. if there are puddles the it means that oil is follwing up the tube a lot, either the baffle inside the valve cover is broken or you hafta stop taking left turns so hard.

Like he said, it is probably from the breather. No big deal. Just make sure your breathre is clean.
FYI, the PCV valve is on the driver's side front top of the valve cover. Couple of bucks at any shop, and about 3.5 seconds to change. It's job is to allow engine vacuum to "suck" out fumes and blow-by from the crankcase. There is always a little pressure that gets by the piston rings, and to avoid a pressure buildup in the lower half of the motor they put this little valve in that has vaccum to help relieve any excess low end pressure.

Also, check ur emmision lines. Seems like I remember someone saying they had oil in the air filter and it was because one of the emmision lines was kinked and the oil that usually flows through there had no choice but to go up into the filter assembly from the breather. Just a thought.
