Interesting info about L31 vortec heads for 305

I just got off the Phone with "Milo" from Jim Pace performance parts. I asked him about the L31's that were drilled and tapped for the old style intake. He said that you needed an extra .325" added to the top of your intake runners before you have a gasket sealing surface for your old style intake. He also told me that an Edelbrock performer Intake would not work(the Vortec version will). He called it a "short" intake meaning that there would be a .0625 gap between the top of the head's intake runner and the top of the Intakes runner. He kinda confused me a little. Then he went on about how 305 sucked and I'm stupid for building one, but I don't care. I stil want these heads but I'm running into more and more problems with bolting them to a 305. I will conquer it though!!!

This will explain the .325 thing better

I hate trying to post pics. Check this out. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewP...171&p=39584554

why not get aluminum heads and save 40 lbs? Or don't mill the Vortecs, get pop up pistons to make up for the added chamber volume, and get a Edelbrock Victor intake made for Vortec heads.

1. AL heas cost too much even efter you machine the Vortecs you still have less in them than a comparable set of AL's

2. Don't want to go with pop up pistons the bottom end is done for now and I don't want to mess with it anymore.

3. The edelbrock victor WON't fit under my hood with the TBI and the air cleaner. If I do decide to go with a vortec specific intake it will be the RPM because I believe that it sits at the same height as the Performer(which I have now).

I like my 305 I like using GM parts there is a way to get this done i just don't have it figured out yet.
