I have heard the benifits of removing the emission crap from my car. I want to do it but I am not sure if it legal. Does anyone know a site I can check on? I thecked Colorado State's Official page ... no help.

I can save you some time and tell you that it is illegal to tamper with or remove any of your factory installed emissions controls.
Here in Colorado Springs we have periodic(interval depends on model year / vehicle age) emissions testing... part of the testing includes a visual inspecion where they look for a cat, smog pump, etc. If you dont have periodic smog checks in your area, you could probably get away with removing your stuff and not get caught.... but I say why bother. You only loose a couple of hp with the smog pump and if you install a high flow cat when you do the exhaust the losses there will also be negligable. There are far better ways to make 10 HP than removing emissions devices.

I think dan is right on. One thing you can do though, if you make mods to your engine there is a tech services dept within the Air polution control division in colorado. Call 303-744-2442 #3 and they will discuss what you want to do as well as offor you advice on emissions legal mods...........bob

Since a TBI has very little comparitivly, emissions wise, you're better off leaving it alone. Whats wierd is that my 1993 Caprice with 350 tbi has less emissions crap than a 1991 305 tbi F-body. Bizzare.

colorado is nearly california style on emissions laws. they are strict, you dont have a sticker already. i thought it was yearly checks for cars over 2 years old or something. I was supposed to have a sticker when i was in school there even though the car was licensed in iowa. never got a ticket.
