Novice to f-body needs help
I recently bought a 1989 305 tbi trans am.I love the car but it seems that it runs sluggish at times. After looking at alot of post IT seems that alot of people recommend new headers and cams.A friend told me about changeing the fuel injection to a more powerfull one but i aint really sure about that.Which headers and cams would you recomend and also can you make any suggestions on mods that i can do that dont exceed 500 dollars(i am a 17 year old and dont work full time....straped for cash)
look in the archives, people post about "what should i do for first mods" about 500000 X a week. you'll find help there.

miami ? im in miami too, you ever go to the fuddruckers show or bird and 87th?
first off, dont listen to your friends chances are they are as clueless as you
secondly, start off with simple stuff, have you given the car a tuneup? like spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter? Tried advancing the timing?
get the basics covered before you start talking about mods
you will never be happy if you are modding a car that is running poorly to begin with.

Tell the friends that thing you need a new induction system to stand behind the tailpipe and look into it while the car is running. If they start to tear then you either have a plug not firing, oxygen sensor needs to be replaced, or fuel pressure is out of wack. I'm thinking it's going to be one of the two things listed. When was the last time you had the points in the distrib checked? If not recently then I'd get that fixed up and make sure all your plugs are firing. As for mods to get the dog running faster: Headers ~$500 and or rear end gears ~$200-$600(posi unit). I like getting exhaust just because you don't only feel faster but it sounds faster and that is half of the joy. Then save up for gears. If you're stock you're far from getting into the low to mid 14's in the 1/4 so start small and don't invest in parts that are going to be shelfed after you upgrade another part. Examples of "imbetween" parts are a EPROM chip after getting headers, wait until you have money for intake manifold and cam or a 350 if you can hold out. Do as many of the ultimate TBI mods listed in the tech articles and you should be happy with the results. Just don't spend too much on the car stereo
and you'll get faster faster.
