Back pressure question

Back pressure question

Im running headers with stock cat. and no muffler. I am woundering if I should put a muffler on to get more back pressure? Do you think it would help out any?(305tbi)thanks

back pressure is created at the point the exhaust meets it's first obstruction. if you have stock manifolds, y-pipe, and cat then the muffler wouldn't make much of a difference. if you hollowed out the cat or went to headers you may need more tubing for the appropriate amount of back pressure. as for now the muffler optional to you.

Moving to the exhaust board, trust me, you'll get lots more help there. Also, do a search there. It should answer you questions, and tech you about backpressure and exhaust tuning.
